Non-fungible tokens have taken the sports world by storm this year so far. NBA Top Shot is the most notable sports NFT platform, paving the way for other leagues outside of the NBA to see the potential tokens have in this space to build revenue and culture around. The UFC, MLB, and more leagues are branching into the world of NFTs, here’s what they’re up to.

UFC

The UFC is diving into the cryptocurrency world with UFC Fan Tokens. Debuting this summer, these fan tokens are fulfilled by Socios blockchain and will be the official UFC cryptocurrency. Fans will be able to have stakes in matches, ultimately giving them a say in matchups and the inner workings of the Octagon.

Soccer

Gaining popularity is a global soccer fantasy league, Sorare, which is powered by NFTs. The platform has partnered with clubs such as Paris Saint-German, Liverpool, Munich, and Real Madrid. Fans can buy, trade, and sell digital cards as well as build teams and gain rewards through a fantasy league.

MLB

Legendary trading card company Topps debuted their first MLB Series 1 NFT collection on Wax blockchain. There were two category packs, standard and premium, both with the chance to get common, uncommon, and rare cards. This series also included the “Burn to Earn” opportunity in which card owners have the chance to get exclusive Topps 1952 styled cards with modern players.

NFL

Rob Gronkowski recently released his own NFT collection which generated $1.8 million in primary sales on OpenSea. This drop included the GRONK Career Highlighted Refractor Card which came with rewards such as the change to meet Gronk and 2 tickets to one of his 2021 NFL games. The NFL itself is soon to release the H2H Legends of Football Collection which will feature NFL Hall of Famers that have won Heisman Trophies. Tim Brown will be the first player to be featured in this H2H collection.
